Suprise!!!!

So it's friday and I am blogging. Who would have thought!! I hope this makes ya'll day as much as it does mine. So today was two test friday. I feel like I am back in college. I got up at 4:30 to study. I did okay. Better than I thought but not as good as I should have. Such is life. An interesting thing on the way to the test. We got picked up from our village at 7:30 with our language trainers and then we went to the training center. On the way our driver (he's PC staff) hit a bird and then pulled over and picked it up so he could eat it for lunch!!! Can you believe it. He got out of the vehicl and we were all like wait why's he stoping it's just a bird and the lang trainers, they are zambian, looked at us and were like duh, to eat. We told them that that was a cultural moment for us. Matt, dan, and erin took a pic so I'm sure someone will post it on Sun. Another surprising thing is that I actually perfer to use a chimbushi (our toilet/outhouse) as opposed to a regular standing toliet. Theres a lot to be said for a hole in the ground. It really makes the process so much easier. The bank where I am at typing has a pretyy nice toliet but I find myself longing for that deep dark hole. Oh well. Oh to answer the question about my bike. It has 21 speeds, Front and back brakes. I am getting used I suppose. So that is really all for now. Tommorrow is big dam day!! I am so excited it will be great to be by the water!!! I can't wait. I'll tell ya'll all about it on sunday hopefully. I will proably come to Kitwe!! Peace out, love ya Vic

What a nice Friday surprise. I was up and on the computer when all of a sudden there was an update from Victoria!!!!!
I am so proud of you especially on the language. With each word being about 13 letters long I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be. You are FANTASTIC.
I Love You

Hey Buddy! What a great Friday suprise! Only I feel bad since you didn't have a message waiting from me since I write on Fridays! Sorry! But so good to hear from you! Congrats on the tests! And what's better - they are over, and on to your fun weekend! I'm sure you'll have more than plenty of opportunites to share your favorite "fish/dam" joke! The key is to tell it to one person at a time so you get the maximum use out of it!! You're new friends don't know what they are in for! And that bird story - funny stuff! Someday soon we'll be hearing of you speeding up on your bike in hopes of hitting a rodent or bird for your next meal too - I can't wait!! And the "longing for the deep dark hole" comment - buddy, that is exactly why we knew you'd be perfect for the Peace Corps!! Seriously, the PC is going to want to keep your Post for PC archival history! You are hilarious!! Great post! I love you and miss you! Enjoy the water, remember safety first, and "it's okay, you're a lifeguard!"!! Have a great day!
Lauren =)

Hi Victoria, Just a quick note to say hello. It sounds like you're doing just great - and I really thought all along that you'd be really good at this. I know your being there is making a difference. They had some of those facilities you refer to in Saudi, but I never did become too fond of them. But then I do seem to remember a time or two when I was glad to see one. I'll tell you more about that in my letter. Phil and Angel send their love. Bye for now. Love, Aunt Elaine

Hey 4-legged sis Vic. We agree with you 100% on that restroom situation, the great outdoors is much better than anything the great indoors has to offer. Also about the good bugs and the bad bugs, if you eat a bad bug don't forget to eat plenty of grass.
You are the best. Love Jack and Skye

I hope you had a great time on your dam field trip. Oops.

And Victoria, we do use the bathroom inside the house. Mom and Dad put a nice white water bowl in there for us. Very refreshing!

Love,
Your Four-Legged Siblings,
Jack and Skye

Sorry that Jack and Skye got to the computer before I did. I thought it might be a mistake when Kay taught them to use it. I'm so happy you have such a fun trip planned this weekend. I hope you really have a great time. Thanks for the email. Your bike sounds really neat. We can hardly wait to get some pictures of you and we can hardly wait until Sunday to hear from you again. Love, Dad

Well don't try running over any little critters for your lunch. You know it would have to be cleaned and that could be a job. How are you enjoying the food? anything exciting or is it mostly rice with different spices. Is there gonna be tests to everything we do in life. Oh well, do your best and couldnt ask for anything more. Will it matter l0 yrs from now. We love you, GM and PJ

I,m on my lunch break now and I was thinking of you and the big day you proably had. I bet the dam was a great diversion from the difficult days of learning a new language and the different cultures. I didn't realize it but dams come in all sizes, you proably saw big one today. On the golf courses I play on there are a lot of little dams all over, but especially on the greens. I know they are there because peiople I play with always say dam after they miss a putt. Sometimes they say it 3or 4 times and they say it real loud. I never see the dam, but I guess they must be around the golf courses, because people sure do bring them up frequently. O r maybe I'm just missing something, sure wish you could be here to splain it to me.
Love your confused dad

I can see you're really adjusting to your Zambian life. Never expected that you would become so accustomed to your hole in the ground that you would miss it. :) I'm glad that after two tests, you're able to have a fun weekend. Can't wait to hear about your adventures at the dam, as well as the wonderful reactions I'm sure you will receive from telling your infamous "dam joke." Love you and miss you tons!!!!
