What a week!!!

What A Week!!! And yes I am posting this weekend!!! It's just going to be on Sunday and not saturday!! Okay so for the week in review... Monday was good same old same old lanugage and tech stuff. Tuesday I had the school activity. That went so well!!! It was fun to get out of routine for a bit. Kristen, Regina, and I worked well together and I think the kids all had a really good time. We talked about self esteem and the importance of it etc. It was fun!! Wed was the usual and Thru we went to mwkera. I learned about rabies. Not really a fun disease and if a human gets it and doesn't get treated in time you die. Not cool huh. So if you are coming to see me you have to get your rabies vaccinations!! I'm making it a requirment:). There are stray dogs here but the villagers kill them if they think they have rabies but still tis better to err on the side of caution. So I got my second rabies shot on thursday and my other hep shot? I have few more left. I also found out about a lot of cool and by cool I mean disgusting germs/worms I will get while I am here. Most likely anyways, I learned all the signs, syptoms, how to treat yourself when to go/call the PCMO and stuff. It was all pretty interesting and I defintily feel good about the people in charge of my health care over the next few years so that's good. Sat we had a culture day. All of our families came to the training center with us and cooked us different local dishes. I tried flying termites and catapillars!!! Can you belive it!!! I have actually had worse things. Then the families went home and all the PCT went out in Kitwe we had a good time but I am still really tired today. I can't wait for the waterfall next weekend!!! I am so excited!!! Today I went to church. Church here is cool. In the chruch I go while here, all the women sit on the left, the men on the right, and the kids upfront left. We sing a lot, clap and dance. The sermon is all in Bemba, the language I am not learning! But it has still been neat to attend a service here. Monday we are going to town during the day and we have to order food to eat in our language and practice bargaining for things at the market!! Fun Field trip day!!!! Then tuesday we have another teaching actvity kind of. We will be meeting with the neighboorhood health committee for our village and helping them address a particular health issue facing their village and then figure out a solution and intervention. Kristen, Regina and I will do it. Then Friday we have a tech test and a language test. It is going to be an extremely busy busy week. But luckily Sat we go to the Dam. Yipee!!! So I have read all your comments and to answer a few questions.... I do have an outhouse, no elctricity, no running water, except when I pour it out of a cup and it runs over me.. Ha ha ha.... I do obviously have a bike. Some people have cell phones but the whole concept of cell phones is a little bit different here. I have 3 rooms all to myself. All in all it's a pretty nice set up. I really can't complain. So as for now I had better get off this thing. I have a few things to check. oh, other people have posted pics so follow different links to see different things that I am seeing. Love ya all and peace out for now, vic

What a nice surprise!!!! I was all prepared to have to wait another week without an update. Rachel really is the favorite or at least the favored one today. I sped all the way home only to be told I couldn't call you. You had to spend time with your family. What are we chopped liver? No, I really understand. We are thankful for the opportunity to talk to you when we can.
I am SOOOO glad things went well for you. I know that we all have been praying for you. Have a fun time at the lake.
I love you
Mom

So how does termites and caterpillars taste. Is it something you would order yourself. :You are getting pretty fast on the bike rides. It all will get easier. Now for that handwashing I can only say, I am glad its you and not me. I failed in that course. Love you, GM

I just sat down for a really long time and read all of your posts. I am very excited for all the great things you are doing. You would kill on Fear Factor. You will have mastered the eating part by the time you return. It is a thought. Good luck on your language test. Looking forward to your next post!
Love You!

Any day we hear from you is a great day. No matter what happens the rest of the day it will have been a fantastic day. I love your description of life in Zambia. I think it is great that you are trying new food, I will understand if you don't clean up your plate. Things are good here. A good day in church and golf this afternoon and beautiful weather. Life is good in Midwest City.
Please mention what your bicycle looks like, is it a 10 speed mountain bike, and have they taught you how to work on it?
It sounds like you will have a very busy week, your in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you have a great week.
Love Dad

Victoria...
The following is one of my favorite poems from Robert Frost. I wonder if you get to see many fireflies over there in Zambia. I really like to watch the fireflies here in Tulsa. When you see these illuminating flies think of me.
Fireflies in the Garden
Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart),
Achieve at times a star-like start,
Only, of course they can't sustain the part.

Here is hoping that you see plenty of fireflies and that there are many stars as well for you to wish on. Yours Affectionatly.
Miss Golightly
p.s.-Those dogs have nothing on me! ;)

Dear Victoria,
While I dearly love the kitties, I didn't much care for Ms. Golightly's comment about dogs. Sure I haven't quoted a famous poet, but I'm pretty humble about that sort of thing. I pretty much attended the school of hard knocks and had to learn about life from the streets, so to speak. And so sorry to hear about the rabies! I told Dad that I think Skye has rabies, but he wouldn't shoot her. I have to get a rabies shot myself and it makes me want to bite the doctor. I have to wear a muzzle, do you? Well good luck with that, Love, Jack the Tiger Lab

Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to the idea.

Hi Victoria!! Lynn gave me your Blog address...it has been SO much fun reading all your adventures and I look forward to reading MANY more! :) Since I'm not brave enough, I will live vicariously though you!! I read that you're going to the dam and all I could think of was the joke you used to tell all the time..."what did the fish say when he hit the wall?" Hee hee. Well...I want you to know that I am praying for you and thinking about you daily. I am so proud of you.
With Love,
Tiffany Fisher
P.S. - I saw that Lynn already told you, but Chris finally put me a nice sparkly thing on my finger! The date isn't set yet, but it will be Late May / Early June 2007.
